Flyers’ Claude Giroux is Underrated

August 12th, 2019 Since breaking into the league over a decade ago, Claude Giroux hasn’t been treated like an elite player, when in reality, it's praise he deserves. Why Giroux doesn’t get the publicity he deserves at a national level and is at most times criticized in the town he plays in, is anyone’s...

Philadelphia Flyers

In today's NHL rumor rundown, there is news on the Philadelphia Flyers and how close they are to singing Travis Konecny, the Florida Panthers who may run with a couple of inexperienced backup goaltenders, plus updates on the Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche. Flyers to Sign Konecny Right Away? The Courier Post’s David Isaac writes he believes that Philadelphia Flyers and forward Travis Konecny are likely to work out a deal within the next few weeks. With other comparable contracts done around the NHL, the Flyers have a better idea of what he's worth. Philadelphia's Travis Konecny has shown a lot of promise so far this season. (Amy Irvin / The Hockey Writers) Isaac writes that the Timo Meier and Jakub Vrana deals set a market for Konecny and he will probably fall somewhere between the two. Isaac writes: They’re closer with Konecny than they are with Provorov. As Fletcher has said a few times this offseason, RFAs are playing a...

Philadelphia Flyers

In today's NHL rumor rundown, there is news out of Philadelphia where the Flyers are working on a deal for Ivan Provorov, the Colorado Avalanche might be looking to sign a veteran d-man, the Columbus Blue Jackets are rumored to have gone hard after Mitch Marner and the Chicago Blackhawks are trying to bring one of their college defensemen over sooner than later. Contract Talks and Ivan Provorov NHL.com’s Adam Kimelman noted that when asked about discussions for defenseman Ivan Provorov, GM Chuck Fletcher suggested that it could take a little while for a deal to get done. Fletcher said, "Everything’s cordial and amicable, but I think until the market settles out a bit it may be difficult to move forward on Provorov.” Ivan Provorov, Philadelphia Flyers, Dec. 6, 2016 (Amy Irvin / The Hockey Writers) Fletcher might want to see some of the bigger-name restricted free agent blueliners — such as Charlie McAvoy and Jacob Trouba — sign deals first so he can get a...

Philadelphia Flyers

Originally written in November of 2013 by Shawn Reznick. Pelle Lindbergh was regarded as one of the greatest Flyers goalies. Here now are some memories of the star netminder. Next to Bernie Parent, Pelle Lindbergh was the best goalie to play in a Philadelphia Flyers sweater.  He had the skill; he had the charisma; he had a passion for Flyers hockey. Philadelphia was riding a 10-game winning streak early in the season. After beating the Bruins on Saturday November 10, the team had six days off before facing their newest rivals - Edmonton.  The Flyers were beaten by the Edmonton Oilers the year before in the Stanley Cup Finals. Pelle "Gump" Lindbergh was playing lights out and had recently won the Vezina trophy during the 1984-85 season.  The team was destined for greatness, but in an instant, the air escaped from the city of Philadelphia. Flyers Prospects

For the newest members of the Philadelphia Flyers organization the annual developmental camp held in Voorhees, New Jersey is their first taste of pro hockey. For others who've been part of the organization for a couple of years, it's the first chance of the year to showcase the progress they've made since last camp. It offers a shot to convince the higher-ups you may be ready for a crack at the NHL. Another developmental camp has come and gone, with the week-long activities ending with a full 5v5 scrimmage open to the public. I was lucky enough to attend the final day and observe the up-and-coming young prospects first-hand to see which new faces popped, and which of the elder members look ready to take the leap to the pros. Most of the 41 prospects in attendance rights' are already owned by the Flyers, but for a handful of kids, this is an opportunity to earn an entry-level contract (ELC) and become the next Philippe Myers or Yegor Zamula (previous camp invites who performed...
